The Northwest Partnership will collaborate to develop an effective billing management model to maximize billing procedure efficiencies and increase health department expense recovery. For this two year initiative the Partnership will hire a regional medical coder to standardize a medical coding system and develop a best billing and compliance practices model based on the new system.

Project Update: March 2011
The Northwest Partnership hired Debbie Widner as the Regional Coding and Billing Specialist. Her assistance includes helping local health departments with implementation of billing for Diabetes Programs to work toward self-sustainability for the program when grant funding is exhausted; applying for insurance credentialing with Blue Cross Blue Shield and other third party payers; helping local health departments, who are not Medicare providers, with completing Medicare applications; and providing assistance to establish sliding fee scales and charges for Diabetes and Medical Nutrition Therapy services. In addition Debbie holds monthly focus group meetings for support and billing staff for the NWPPH.
