HIPAA Interactive Online Training Module Valuable to Local Health Departments

HIPPA Training ModuleThe Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Interactive Online Training Module, unveiled in November 2006, was developed by the Northwest Partnership in response to an overwhelming number of requests from health department staff in partnership counties to develop a training that would educate both new and current health department staff. Fifty-six North Carolina Health Departments representing 68 counties have used the tool as of May 2008 not including a Georgia Health District.

So far, the HIPAA training tool has proven to be extremely valuable to local health departments who are required to train employees about HIPAA procedures.  “We love the HIPAA interactive tool in Guilford County and required all public health staff to use it this year so we could fulfill our annual training requirement.  It is user friendly and touches all the important points.  We wish something like this could be developed for our annual OSHA training.” says Sherry Baldwin, Administrator at the Guildford County Department of Public Health.  The training is available to local health departments in North Carolina and other interested public health agencies.
